It is used in perfumery, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

Myrtle (Myrtus communis) is present in Crete, as well as in the rest of Greece.

An evergreen shrub, it can reach a height of up to 5 metres.

Myrtle is cultivated outdoors, in pots, and in greenhouses. It finds applications in perfumery, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, yielding essential oil (myrtle oil). Its sturdy wood is employed in fine carpentry, while its branches are utilised in basketry.
