The history, culture, and economy of Crete are intimately intertwined with the olive tree.

An ancient olive tree has been discovered in the village of Vrysses, Amari, Rethymno.

Situated 45 kilometres from Rethymno, the village is perched at an altitude of 600 metres, nestled in a fertile valley at the northern foothills of Mt Psiloritis.

It is in this location that the collaborative efforts of cultural associations, united to preserve the ancient olive trees of Crete, have identified this tree.
