Hiking in the Meteora of Lasithi!

Adventure & Action

On Sunday 22 February 2026, the Mountaineering Club of Agios Nikolaos will walk in an area we visit every year at this time, drawn by its distinctive natural beauty. This time, however, the route will be different.

We will set off just outside Kalamafka and follow a steady uphill road for quite some time, until we reach almost the ridge line, with views stretching towards the South Cretan Sea. From there, we turn east and continue climbing towards Timios Stavros, above Anatoli.

After a well-earned rest, we will descend along a dirt road, eventually reaching Timios Stavros of Kalamafka. Most of the route follows a dirt road.

The total distance, combined with the continuous ascent, may cause fatigue. Those wishing to participate should take this seriously into account.

The trail is filled with blooming almond trees and flowers, pines and imposing rocks — the well-known “Meteora” of Lasithi.

DEPARTURE: From Agios Nikolaos, Karamanli Street 24 (S/M Vasilopoulos parking), at 08:00 on Sunday morning.
Transport by private cars. Passengers are kindly asked to contribute €5 to the driver.

The route is circular. Those who wish may come directly to the starting point and meet us at the turn for Panagia Kalafatianis, after Kalamafka towards Anatoli.

HIKE DURATION: 5.5 hours (including stops)
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: 1+
DISTANCE: 14.5 km
ELEVATION GAIN: 581 m

LEADER – REGISTRATION: Panagiotis Evdaimon (697 968 7576)
