On Wednesday 18 February 2026, the Municipality of Chania, in collaboration with the Region of Crete – Regional Unit of Chania, the Chania Traffic Police Department, the Offices of Physical Education and School Sports of the Primary and Secondary Education Directorates of Chania, the Department of School Activities of Primary Education of Chania, the collective “Podilatreis”, and the Cycling Clubs P.O.X. Talos ANEK LINES and A.O. Kydon, are organising for the second consecutive year the cycling action “In Love with the Bicycle”.

Students from Primary and Secondary Education, as well as any citizens who wish to take part, are invited to join a celebration of experiential learning, joy, expression and active participation in public space.

The aim of the event is to promote, in a hands-on way, safe, active and sustainable mobility by bicycle and on foot in everyday life. It encourages the use of bicycles — especially for journeys to and from school — while promoting road safety, coexistence in the urban environment, and the cultivation of active and responsible citizens from a young age.

The initiative “In Love with the Bicycle… Again!!” includes, among other activities:

Three (3) organised group cycling routes (bike trains) with the participation of students, teachers and parents. The rides will begin at approximately 9:00am, passing by the participating schools, and will arrive at a common destination — this year the yard of the Experimental Gymnasium of Chania (at the Market) — where the traditional cutting of the bicycle cake will take place.

After the completion of the activities, the bike trains will return to each school, arriving at approximately 13:00.
