Wine Tasting at Skalarea Estate

Just 4 km from the archaeological site of Knossos, and a short drive from Heraklion, you’ll find Skalarea Estate.

Set on 66 stremmata (approximately 16 acres), the estate unfolds along the side of a gentle hill. It’s naturally protected from the hot southern winds blowing in from the Libyan Sea, while remaining open to the cooling northern meltemia from the Cretan Sea—ideal conditions for healthy, flourishing vineyards.

At the estate’s modern winery, visitors are welcomed into a rich wine cellar, a dedicated screening room that offers a deep dive into the island’s history, and a striking tasting hall, where you can sample selected local wines and explore the flavors and philosophy of the Mediterranean diet.
