Nativity of the Theotokos, Ethia

Churches

ABOUT

In a spot with a magical view over the village of Ethia, right where the grave of Eumenios Saridakis lies, you'll find the two-aisled church of the Nativity of the Theotokos and the Archangels Michael and Gabriel.

As explained by the Holy Metropolis of Gortyna and Arkadia, the church was built out of necessity due to the growing population of the village. Construction was undertaken by craftsmen from the island of Karpathos, using stone sourced from the local area.

Based on the dates inscribed on the icons and a date on the church's bell tower, it is believed that the church was inaugurated sometime between 1912 and 1915, although it is not known which bishop conducted the inauguration.
