St Paraskevi (Agia Paraskevi) Monastery

Monasteries

ABOUT

It is a monastery complex of the 2nd Byzantine period (12-13th century), constituting an integral part of the wild landscape of the settlement. It is located south of the settlement at the foot of Mount Housaka of Asterousia and at a distance of about 30 km from Kastelli.

The monastery comprises three single-aisled churches: Agia Paraskevi, Michael the Archangel and Agios Markos.

The church suffered great damage in the bombing during the Second World War. Unfortunately, the church of Agios Markos is in a poor state of repair and in dire need of restoration, and its frescoes are not discernible.
