Katalagari: Where the Locals Have Crafted Fine Wine
ABOUT
It's a place where the locals have learned the art of crafting fine wine and raki.
Katalagari is situated at the eastern base of Kefala Hill, offering a panoramic view of the plain adorned with vineyards and olive groves.
One of the suggested explanations for its name is that it is derived from the verb ‘katalagiazo’ which means ‘settle’ in Greek. The villagers used to transport the grape must from the wine presses to Katalagari, where it would settle and transform into wine.
Others claim that the name originates from ‘lagara’, signifying a liquid free from foreign substances that is settled, pure, and clear.
The visitor can savour delicious cuisine, including wine and raki, at the local tavernas and find accommodation in various agrotourism options.
The village boasts prominent landmarks such as the Church of Prophet Elias and the Church of Panagia.
