Diavaide: A Charming, Small Settlement
ABOUT
Practically a stone’s throw from Kastelli, Diavaide lies just 700 meters southeast of it and is now considered a part of the larger village.
The village played a significant role during the German Occupation of Crete. It served as the base for Nazi repair units for motorized vehicles, as well as a site for anti-aircraft FLAK units.
While in Diavaide, it’s worth visiting the small chapel of Agios Georgios, located just a few kilometers southeast of the village. It’s a single-nave church built over a small spring considered holy, nestled in lush green surroundings.
Inside, you can still see fresco decorations dating from the late 13th to early 14th century.
