Archanes Archaeological Collection
ABOUT
The Archanes Archaeological Collection is housed in a neoclassical building from the last century located in the Tzami district.
In the courtyard of the building stands the bust of archaeologist Ioannis Sakellarakis, serving as a modest tribute from the citizens honouring his work.
The Museum of Archanes was inaugurated in 1993; previously, the discoveries from the area had been housed in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion. Even today, primarily for security reasons, the Archaeological Collection of Archanes comprises mainly clay and stone vessels, along with exact replicas of the most significant findings from the region.
The museum is open daily (except Tuesdays) from 8:30 am to 14:30, and admission is free.
