In this deeply personal series, photographer Norma Sfeir captures moments of truth through the faces of women she has encountered over the years. Her lens reveals their strength, their light, and their sensitivity. Each portrait becomes an intimate echo, a shared story, a meeting in the mirror. The exhibition builds a quiet but powerful bond between the artist and her subjects — a gentle sisterhood of silent solidarity.
Shadows, light, nature and symbols weave together in these works to celebrate the authentic and inherently political beauty of the feminine. On paper or canvas, these portraits blend pure photography and photomontage in the service of a kind of embodied poetry.
Norma Faustine Sfeir is both a photographer and filmmaker. After studying anthropology at the Sorbonne, she went on to train in theatre with Lee Strasberg and photography at Parsons School in Paris. Her camera has travelled the world — South America, India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Egypt — capturing the depths of life in her documentaries.
Among her films, Bali Tropiques (1981) was acquired by the CNC and shown in Paris libraries and on Canal+. Un Instant avec les Mobiles de Calder (1983), featuring Japanese dancer Shiro Daïmon, was held by the Paris Videotheque for 30 years. Her photography exhibitions in Paris (1985) and in Beirut and Tripoli (1998) trace her rich artistic path.
Author of Féminin Majeur, Sfeir reveals with sensitivity the unique aura of her female subjects, often in close communion: “I recognise myself in them.” Driven by a spirit of challenge, her work blends emotion, body and culture. Through founding the AWLAD association, she also supports the emotional intelligence of children, firmly believing in the power of artistic expression. Her open spirit, shaped by a multicultural background, sees her subjects in a new light — deeply human, free of judgment.
