The Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (OFYPEKA) has announced that, for the second year in a row, medical staff will be present inside the Samaria National Park.
Starting July 1st, 2025, the Park will be staffed by two doctors and one nurse, who will provide daily medical support until the Park closes for the season on October 31st, 2025. The medical team will work in close coordination with all OFYPEKA staff operating within the Gorge.
This initiative is yet another step toward enhancing visitor safety, building on efforts made in recent years. With the protection and preservation of Samaria’s natural environment as its top priority, OFYPEKA continues its daily commitment to making the Gorge a top-tier and safe natural destination for both Crete and Greece.

As of July 1st, 2025, more than 34,000 visitors have already passed through the gates of Samaria National Park this year.
A reminder to all visitors: under the Park's official regulations, everyone entering Samaria must respect and protect the natural environment, and comply with all rules during entry, stay, and exit. Visitors are personally responsible for their own safety, accepting all associated risks—especially in cases of emergencies or unforeseen incidents. They are expected to take whatever safety precautions they deem necessary.
In addition, all visitors must fully comply with any emergency measures or restrictions, as well as with the instructions issued by Park staff or designated contractors.
