If you haven’t slept to the sound of waves with the legendary caves as your backdrop, then no—you haven’t really been to Matala. And no, “I stayed in a room with a view” doesn’t count.
If this summer you’re getting your tent, your soul and your patience ready for Matala Beach Festival, start taking notes. This is camping with character. Not glamping. Not hotels. Just you, your sleeping bag, and your freedom.

🎒 1. The Golden Rule: Travel light, think deep
Pack your whole wardrobe and you’ll just end up sweating while pitching your tent—meanwhile your friends are already dancing by the stage. Bring less, wear comfort, and choose stuff that’s easy to wash. Matala loves simplicity.
🐚 2. Showers with sand and deodorant
“Natural exfoliation” takes on a whole new meaning here. Go for biodegradable, eco-friendly soaps—and baby wipes. Lots of them. Don’t expect a spa. But that cold beachside shower after a late-night set? It borders on spiritual. And yes, we do have some showers of our own!
🕶 3. Your neighbours are everywhere
Camping at Matala is like a social experiment with a live soundtrack. You’ll wake up to guitars and fall asleep to applause. Craving absolute silence? Try… Pitsidia. Looking for stories? Say “hi” to your tent neighbour. They might be a DJ, an artist—or your future best man.
🎶 4. Soundtrack: natural and festival-made
Your day starts with beats from the Beach Bar, flows into jam sessions between tents, and explodes with live acts that don’t ask—they pull you up off the tent floor. Not into the noise? Bring earplugs. Or fall in love with the chaos.
🥒 5. Food hacks for alternative campers
Energy bars are fine. But that little tiropita shop at 6 AM? A lifesaver. And water—drink a lot. The sun doesn’t mess around. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian or fasting, Matala has a spot for you and your little food container. Everyone’s welcome here.
☀️ 6. Woke up drenched in sweat at 7:00? Congrats, you made it.
The morning sun is ruthless. But you get up, you dive in the sea, and you whisper, “I’m alive.” That’s the magic of camping at Matala—you live a little less comfortably, but way more truthfully.
❤️ 7. No epilogue: Matala can’t be described. Just live it.
Camping at Matala is part Woodstock, part Kazantzakis, and part “what time does that guy go on?” It’s open space, good company, laughter, and a wild kind of freedom that’s hard to find elsewhere.
If this is your year to sleep under the stars, sweat in lines, laugh with strangers, dance barefoot and feel free—grab your essentials and meet us at Matala Beach Festival 2025.
