A wildfire broke out on the afternoon of Wednesday, 2 July 2025, in the region of Ierapetra.
Firefighting efforts continue on Thursday, 3 July 2025, in Ferma, Schinokapsala and towards Koutsounari.
The damage is extensive and both homes and tourist accommodations have been evacuated.
The Municipality of Ierapetra issued the following announcement:
Wild fire in our area!
‼️ If you are in the areas of #Agia_Fotia, #Achlia, #Galini, or #Ferma and you have not already evacuated, leave immediately towards #Ierapetra and follow the instructions of the authorities.
🚨 Protection instructions:
• If you are staying at a hotel, follow the instructions from the reception and hotel staff.
• If you are staying at an Airbnb, follow the instructions of the authorities and check for updates from the property owner.
👉 If you are staying in a holiday home without contact with a manager, follow the official evacuation orders and stay informed via official channels.
⚠️ Then:
• Close all doors and windows before leaving.
• Leave by car if it is safe, heading directly to Ierapetra.
• Do not try to collect personal belongings at the last minute — your life is the priority.
• Wear a cloth mask or damp cloth to protect yourself from smoke.
• If you have difficulty breathing, call 166 immediately.
