Liodari cave

The cave is close to the Gourgouthakas cave, near the village of Melidoni, at a height of 1600m. At 1110m of depth, it is the second deepest cave in Greece. It was explored for the first time in 2008 by a French-Greek caving expedition.
The cave starts with a sloping gallery and continues to a vertical chasm. For the first 480m, it is narrow, dry and with small vertical descents. It then opens into a large gallery, traversed by a river with waterfalls and small basins. Its deepest part ends in a small sump with water and has yet to be explored. The cave is only accessible to speleologists as it requires experience and equipment.

Every year, speleological expeditions are organised with participants from all over the world to explore it.
