Chalepa: A Historic and Picturesque Suburb of Chania
ABOUT
Chania, as many attest, is considered one of the most beautiful places in Greece.
Chalepa, a historic suburb, affirms this esteemed reputation.
The area gained recognition through the bilateral Agreement of Chalepa on 15th October 1878, involving the Ottoman Empire and a delegation from the Cretan assembly.
It is a distinguished aristocratic suburb adorned with luxurious villas boasting lush gardens and tree-lined streets.
There's no need for it to envy European resorts.
During his time in Crete, Prince George, funded by the salaries he received from Russia as the admiral of the imperial fleet, built the Church of St Magdalene in Chalepa. The church follows a Russian architectural style, featuring the characteristic dome.
