Vouves: The Monumental Olive Tree, the Bridge, and the Three Fountains
ABOUT
It's a charming semi-mountainous village nestled amidst silver-green olive groves, boasting numerous spots of unique natural beauty.
Exploring the traditional bridge linking Vouves with the nearby village of Pontikiana is a must. Additionally, within the village, you'll encounter three traditional fountains. The first is located next to the bridge, the second can be found in the Loukoumicheliana settlement, boasting a history of over two centuries, and lastly, Mesa Vrysi is situated just 50 metres outside the Vouves settlement.
Yet, this small spot on the map gained global recognition thanks to the Monumental Olive Tree, which has towered over Pano Vouves for at least 3,500 years. Regarded as the world's oldest olive tree, it serves as an enduring symbol of Crete's ancient connection with the olive tree.
Every August, the Cultural Association hosts a two-day wine festival.
