Fournes: Nestled at the Foot of the White Mountains
ABOUT
Known as a "village of oranges", it’s surrounded by orange groves, olive trees, and the shade of towering plane trees.
If you happen to be in the area in late spring or early summer, don’t miss the “Anthónero Festival”—a celebration of floral-scented distilled water that locals take seriously and love to share.
At the heart of the village stands its main church, the two-aisled Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour and Saint Panteleimon, which celebrates its feast on July 26. It's a real eye-catcher, especially thanks to its three domes—a rare architectural feature.
For nature lovers, the municipality of Platanias suggests two spectacular walking routes. One starts right in the centre of Fournes and heads south to Meskla, home to the springs of the Keritis river. The other route also starts in the village and winds northeast towards Alikianos, offering equally scenic views.
