Agios Gerasimos, Modi
ABOUT
In the village of Modi, in the municipality of Platanias, Saint Gerasimos of Kefalonia spent two years of his life.
Here lies a cave-like spot where, according to tradition, the saint lived as an ascetic.
In the exact place where he practiced asceticism, there now stands a small shrine dedicated to the Holy Spirit, surrounded by a landscaped area.
Just outside the cave, there's a stone basin carved into the rock, along with a preserved old olive grove and monastic cells that still stand.
After leaving Crete, the saint travelled to Zakynthos, where he stayed for five years, and then to Kefalonia, where he lived until the end of his life, in a forest with an underground cave.
