Valsamiotis Dam

Dams

ABOUT

The Valsamiotis Dam, the largest and tallest of its kind in Greece, is tucked away in Chania prefecture, near the village of Vatolakkos. It takes its name from the Valsamiotis stream that flows through the area.

Getting there is easy—a well-maintained rural road leads straight to the dam, making it a great destination for hiking, cycling, and off-road driving.

Construction began in 2005 and was completed in 2014 with European funding. Today, the dam plays a major role in water management by collecting the waters of the Digenis stream.

Along the way, the small chapel of Agios Stylianos adds a quiet, spiritual note to your adventure.

Whether you're a devoted hiker or simply in search of a peaceful escape, Valsamiotis Dam invites you to explore its serene beauty.
