Prases: Where Chestnut Trees Reign Supreme

It is a picturesque, mountain village nestled within the Municipality of Platanias, surrounded by lush plane trees, chestnut trees, and olive groves.

Just before reaching the village entrance, on the left side as we ascend, Prases Gorge captivates with its breath-taking beauty, boasting steep slopes adorned with rich, verdant vegetation.

In the new settlement, visitors will find charming cafés and tavernas that are definitely worth a stop. Meanwhile, in the old settlement, remnants are scattered parallel to the river, situated to the left and below the main road as we ascend.

In the settlement of Askidia, a pine forest graces the slopes, yielding excellent quality honey.

In the same settlement, one can find the Byzantine church of Agios Nikolaos, dating back to the 15^th century. This church is adorned with impressive frescoes and served as a secret school during the Turkish occupation.

Every year, Prases hosts the Chestnut Festival.
