Palaia Roumata Public Library
ABOUT
Founded in 1944, the library was created with the aim of educating and informing the wider area.
Today, the library sits at the “heart” of the village, in the neighbourhood of “Archontika”, operating in a modern space and housing over 6,000 titles spanning a wide range of topics for children, students and adults alike.
Among the most notable volumes are: “The History of the Greek Nation” by K. Paparrigopoulos, in its 1940 abridged edition, and “Gone with the Wind” by Margaret Mitchell, printed in 1955. You’ll also find original editions of works by Nikos Kazantzakis, such as “Zorba the Greek” and “Odyssey”.
The library also includes material on arts, philosophy, history, literature, science and technology, along with a photographic and historical archive. It holds several rare manuscripts and documents of significant historical value.
The mission of the Palaia Roumata Public Library is to raise the educational level of the community, enhance the area’s cultural life, and preserve its traditions and history.
