Mixorrouma: A Village Known for Its Basket Weaving!
ABOUT
The village of Mixorrouma, in the Municipality of Agios Vasileios, is divided into Upper and Lower Mixorrouma.
Once full of life, the village was famous for its basket weaving, its flour mills, olive presses, and raki distilleries, all powered by water.
It’s set in a stunning valley crossed by a river that flows with plenty of water even in summer. The area is lush with towering plane trees and a wild mix of greenery in every possible shade. The sounds of countless birds add to a dreamy, almost paradise-like atmosphere — a feast for all the senses.
In Upper Mixorrouma, visitors will find a bakery, a petrol station, three traditional kafeneia, and a snack bar decorated with vintage farming tools and household items.
You can also see and buy handmade baskets from the two remaining basket weavers.
