Aktounta: A Picturesque Village with Only a Few Residents
ABOUT
Aktounta is a small, charming village in the Municipality of Agios Vasileios. It sits at an altitude of 640 metres, on the eastern slopes of Mount Siderotas.
From here, the view stretches all the way to the White Mountains, Chania’s Akrotiri, and across the Messara plain to Mount Kofinas.
The village may have only a handful of residents, but it carries a notable history. In 1944, some villagers were temporarily imprisoned by German occupation forces, in retaliation for the abduction of General Kreipe.
