Meskla: Serenity Beneath the Ancient Plane Trees
ABOUT
Nestled amidst towering mountains lies the charming village of Meskla.
At its southern tip lie ‘Piges’, the pristine sources of the Keritis River, also known as Iardanos, which meanders through the entire Kampos (meadow) before merging into Platanias.
As described by the Municipality of Platanias, these springs are a sight of breath-taking natural beauty, nestled among rocky outcrops and shaded by majestic, ancient plane trees. The tranquil ambiance and refreshing coolness of this spot make it challenging for visitors to bid farewell.
Those fortunate enough to visit the village on 14th August, the eve of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, are in for a treat. A grand festival awaits, complete with traditional dances, music, and culinary delights, including the unforgettable local meat cake – a symphony of flavours that lingers in memory long after the festivities end.
