Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Collection of Chania

Museums / Archaeological Museums

ABOUT

The extensive archaeological material, gathered through years of excavations conducted by the 13th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities in the Chania prefecture, as well as from various collections and donations, has formed a collection that vividly documents the historical development of the westernmost prefecture of Crete, spanning from the early Christian period to the era of Turkish occupation. Select artefacts from this collection are on display in the Church of San Salvatore.

The items within each section are arranged in a chronological order. Maps and informative tables are provided to offer visitors insights into the origins of the exhibits and the historical context of their respective eras.
