Nikos Xylouris, also known as the Archangel of Crete, was born in Anogia on 7^th July, 1936, and passed away from cancer on 8^th February 1980.

His significant contributions to the promotion of traditional Cretan music and his stance against the junta (1967-1974) made him a symbol of courage not only for Crete but beyond.
