Imbros: A Mountain Village with a Rich History
Imbros is a village situated at the foot of the White Mountains on the homonymous plateau, standing at an altitude of 780 metres. This small mountain village in Sfakia boasts a rich history and has preserved its picturesque charm.
The village comprises the districts of Dasos, Lepidiana, Nio Chorio, and Chalara. It was the birthplace of numerous fighters and endured multiple destructions in the years 1770, 1821, 1824, and 1827.
Imbros is the birthplace of the notable benefactor of Sfakia, Georgios Xenoudakis, whose bust is located in the vicinity of the old school, now functioning as a Citizen Service Centre (ΚΕΠ). The municipality plans to convert the same building into a museum in his honour.
The well-known and beautiful gorge of the same name begins at this location.
