Frangokastello: Your Tranquil Haven for Family Getaways

The plain owes its name to the medieval castle that graces its landscape, a testament to its rich history and charm.

To the south of the castle, you'll find the beach of the same name, complete with all the facilities. For those in search of a more secluded retreat, Orthi Ammos Beach, situated east of Frangokastello, awaits.

Other stunning beaches include Agia Pelagia, featuring its own church, and Vatalos. Heading east, towards the road to Skaloti, you'll find the hang-gliding take-off run on the right side of the road. To the west of the castle, just 100 metres away, there's a small port where you can moor your boat and purchase fresh fish early in the morning.

Here, you'll discover a variety of accommodation options including rooms to let, apartments, and guesthouses. Additionally, there are numerous tavernas offering special Sfakian flavours.

The Verdant Skaloti

Surrounded by ancient olive groves, the village is situated north of the exit of the Manikas Gorge.

A new stone church dedicated to St Emmanuel of Sfakia stands proudly, inviting visitors to its festival on 21^st August. To the west, just before the village begins, lies the dirt road leading to Manikas. Skaloti is also home to the seaside settlement of Lakki, boasting its splendid beaches.

In Lakki, you'll discover accommodation options and charming tavernas. Continuing east from the junction leading to Lakki will lead you to the easternmost tip of the municipality of Sfakia, where you'll discover the stunning beaches of Agia Marina and Livada, accompanied by a charming taverna.

In the broader area of Skaloti, you'll find the churches of Prophet Elias, celebrated on 20^th July, and Agia Marina, celebrated on 17^th July, both adorned with Byzantine frescoes.
