The visitor can take a plunge into the Mediterranean Sea without getting wet. They can walk alongside sharks and be enchanted by the beauty of jellyfish.

CRETΑquarium is located in the area of the former American base of Gournes, in the Municipality of Hersonissos, Crete, and is run by the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR).

CRETΑquarium focuses on showcasing the diverse species and ecosystems of the Mediterranean, a sea that boasts unique biodiversity and has been the birthplace of ancient civilizations. Every year, millions of visitors from around the world come to experience its wonders. The aquarium features 62 tanks of varying sizes, with a total seawater volume of 1,800,000 litres, and houses 200 different species from the Mediterranean Sea. The exhibits recreate the Cretan and Mediterranean seabed with realistic scenery. In addition to its exhibits, CRETAquarium offers educational programs and innovative services, provides care for injured animals, and continuously adds new marine species to its collection.
