On Sunday, September 21, 2025, the 8th Sitia Geopark Trail will take place and is ready to welcome its fans, with races including a 24.6 km mountain trail run, a 6,000 m cross-country race, 3,000 m for middle school boys and girls, 1,000 m for elementary school boys and girls (grades 4, 5, 6), 500 m for elementary school boys and girls (grades 1, 2, 3), a 300 m race for persons with disabilities, and a 6 km hike.

The race is organized by the Municipality of Sitia and the Sitia Geopark, in co-organization with the Region of Crete and the Regional Unit of Lasithi, and with the support of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy.

Cash prizes will be awarded in the 24.6 km race for the top 3 men and top 3 women in the general ranking as follows:
1st place (female & male) – €200, 2nd place – €100, 3rd place – €50.

• All participants will receive a certificate and a commemorative medal.

• Participants in the 24 km and 6 km races will be provided by the organizers with an electronic timing chip and a bag featuring the event logo.

• Refreshments with water and juices will be available along the route.

• Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers in the general classification of each race, as well as to the winners in each age group for men and women (the top 3 in the general ranking will not be awarded in their age group).

• Children will receive a medal and trophy for the top 3 finishers in each race, as well as souvenir gifts from the Geopark for all participants.

• Medical coverage will be provided.

• A technical t-shirt will be given to participants.

• A buffet will be available at the finish line.

• Free transportation will be provided for the 24 km Sitia Geopark Trail from Sitia to Ziros and return from Kato Zakros to Sitia, with buses departing from the Sitia KTEL station at 6:30 a.m.
  Hikers can also be transferred from Kato Zakros to Zakros at a pre-scheduled time.
