A rich programme of cultural events is in store for summer 2025 in the Municipality of Rethymno, with major happenings not only in the city but also across 24 different villages!

Highlights include the “2nd Music Village Ichoanthos” in Chromonastiri, the well-loved Rock Festival, the recital by Leonidas Kavakos at the Arkadi Monastery, and the launch of the first Performing Arts Festival on Disability “A festival”, taking place from 7 to 15 June 2025.

As for the villages, events are organised by the Municipality of Rethymno in collaboration with local cultural associations. Here’s the breakdown:

7 June – Atsipopoulo
Opening of the “A festival” Performing Arts Festival on Disability, in collaboration with the Association of Parents and Friends of People with Autism.
(Events continue at Fortezza and the Municipal Garden)

15 June – Gallos
Closing night of the festival with two concerts.

22 June – Roustika
Music and poetry night dedicated to the 100th anniversary of poet Manolis Anagnostakis’ birth.

20–23 July – Chromonastiri
2nd Music Village “Ichoanthos” with concerts, dance, choir and percussion workshops, and visual art exhibitions.
Featuring, among others:

• Sokratis Sinopoulos, master of the politiki lyra, with “Metamodal”

• Giannis Dermitzakis with “Dance of the Mind”

• Andreas Paragioudakis with “Somnia Pacis”

5 August – Alones
Talks in honour of Archimandrite Papa-Noufrakis and Spanish Cretanophile benefactor Gustavo Durán, followed by a music event.

23 August – Adele
Music-theatre performance “The Hero’s Journey”.

27 August – Amnatos
Annual event by the School Museum of the Municipality of Rethymno, themed around Early Childhood Education.

31 August – Ancient Eleutherna
Tour of the archaeological site followed by a musical afternoon.

14 September – Episkopi
Opening of the 2nd “Child’s Smile” Festival
