The Kazantzakis Museum, as every year, participates in the celebration of International Museum Day (18 May) organised by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The theme of the 2026 celebration, “Bridging a Divided World through Museums”, highlights museums as spaces of dialogue, connection and understanding between people, cultures and ideas.
As part of the celebration of International Museum Day 2026, the Kazantzakis Museum will offer free admission to its visitors on Sunday, 17 May 2026, and will organise a thematic guided tour for adults titled “Nikos Kazantzakis: In the Shades of Ideas”. The guided tour will begin at 11:00, will last one hour, and participation is free, with prior registration required.
“To think in shades is considered a mortal sin […]”
— Nikos Kazantzakis, “Fear and Hunger”, Kathimerini (20 July 1936).
The thematic guided tour “Nikos Kazantzakis: In the Shades of Ideas” draws on personal belongings, manuscripts, publications, correspondence and archival material to shed light on the writer’s profound and meaningful journey through the shades of ideas during the turbulent era in which he lived. It presents Kazantzakis’ thought as a constant exercise in transcending boundaries and divisions, revealing a thinker who persistently sought the common thread connecting experiences, cultures and ideas. In this way, it invites visitors to reflect on the deeper unity of the human spirit and on the timeless value of synthesis through critical thought.
Concept and implementation: Kleanthi Krithinou, Head of Permanent Exhibition & Communication, Kazantzakis Museum.
For information and registrations, please contact the Kazantzakis Museum (Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 - 17:00).
