Adele: Embracing Hospitality as its Ally
ABOUT
Adele is a quaint, traditional village situated just 9 kilometres from the town of Rethymno. It is renowned for the warm hospitality of its residents and the exceptional quality of its olive oil. Beyond the village, at the location known as Sarakina, stands a memorial dedicated to the 18 Adelians who were executed by the Germans.
Differing perspectives have been voiced concerning the etymology of the village's name. Some contend that it derives from the term ‘adelo’ meaning ‘implicit’ while others propose connections to the name ‘Adolos’ or an Arabic origin. Limited archaeological investigations in the region have substantiated its prolonged habitation dating back to antiquity.
Approximately 4 kilometres away from the village, at Adelianos Kampos, lie the captivating sandy beaches of the northern part of the prefecture, including Adele. In this area, you will discover well-equipped tourist facilities.
