Adventure & Action

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, the Mountaineering Club of Agios Nikolaos is organizing a hike at the picturesque Katharo Plateau.

"We start from Avdeliako, continue towards Sgouros Prinos and the small settlement of Mavres, where there is a spring with water flowing year-round. Then we follow a trail leading to the saddle of Orgia Hill, offering spectacular views of the Dikti peaks: Lazaros (2085 m) and Spathi (2148 m). From there, we descend, and upon reaching the path towards Lazaros, we climb up to the ‘Trypa’ spring, then on to Lakkos tis Ochras, and finally to the spot known as ‘Gonia’ where you'll find the impressive ‘Therioprinos’ or ‘The Englishman’s Holm Oak’. During the occupation, the hollow trunk of this ancient tree was used to hide a British wireless radio. After that, we follow a dirt road back to our starting point," as the announcement states.
