On Sunday, May 11, 2025, the Mountaineering Club of Agios Nikolaos is heading to the "Meteora" of Lasithi, through the beautiful pine forest between Anatoli and Kalamafka.

“We’ll start from Anatoli (649m) and hike up to Timios Stavros (948m), where there’s a stunning view of both the southern and northern Cretan Sea. From there, we’ll descend toward Chavgas Kalamafkas, walking past vineyards, blooming almond and pear trees, impressive rock formations, and we’ll climb up to Kastellana (739m), where the chapel of Timios Stavros stands at the top. Finally, we’ll pass by the chapels of Panagia Kalafatianí and Agios Georgios, and follow a dirt road to reach the main road,” say the organisers.

NECESSARY GEAR: Hiking shoes or trail runners, hiking poles, windbreaker, sunscreen, and snacks.
DEPARTURE: From Agios Nikolaos, at 24 Karamanli Street (S/M Vasilopoulos) at 08:00 on Sunday morning.
Participants coming from Sitia should meet us at 08:15 in Kalo Chorio, at the turn for Prina, and those from Ierapetra at 08:45 at the entrance to Anatoli.
