Orthodoxy celebrates Epiphany on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. In Crete, events will take place, among others, as follows: 

Municipality of Platanias

The Municipality of Platanias announces the Epiphany celebration programme for Tuesday, January 6, 2026:

• 10:30 a.m.: Blessing of the waters at the Platanias Little Port

• 11:00 a.m.: Blessing of the waters at Tavronitis Beach

• 11:00 a.m.: Blessing of the waters at Kamisiana Beach

• 11:30 a.m.: Blessing of the waters at Gerani Beach

• 11:30 a.m.: Blessing of the waters at the Kolymbari Port

• 5:00 p.m.: Festive event at the Orthodox Academy of Crete to welcome the new year and award certificates and prizes to students from the Municipality of Platanias who graduated from Higher Education Institutions during the 2024–2025 school year.

Dams – O.A.K. S.A.

The Crete Development Organisation (O.A.K. S.A.) announces that on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the traditional Blessing of the Waters will take place at facilities under its responsibility, according to the following schedule:

• 10:30 a.m. – Saint George Reservoir, Lassithi Plateau

• 11:00 a.m. – Aposelemi Dam, Heraklion Regional Unit

• 12:00 p.m. – Potamoi Amariou Dam, Rethymno Regional Unit

The Blessing of the Waters at the dams and reservoirs managed by O.A.K. S.A. has become an established institution for the local communities, attracting many citizens each year. Ceremonies will be held at specially arranged areas along the water banks, and weather conditions are expected to be favourable.

Municipality of Faistos

The Mayor and Municipal Council invite you to the Blessing of the Waters ceremonies on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in the Municipality of Faistos:

• Pombia – 10:00 a.m.

• Zaros – 11:30 a.m.

• Antiskari – Platía Peramata – 12:00 p.m.

• Kaloí Limenes – 12:30 p.m.

• Matala – 1:00 p.m.

• Kalamaki – 2:00 p.m.

• Kokkinos Pyrgos – 3:00 p.m.

Municipality of Gortyna

The Blessing of the Waters in the Municipality of Gortyna on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 will take place according to the following programme:

• 10:30 a.m. – Blessing of the waters at the beach of the Holy Monastery of Koudoumas
  (Divine Liturgy: 07:00–10:00)

• 10:30 a.m. – Blessing of the waters at the old Plora aqueduct

• 11:15 a.m. – Blessing of the waters at the Gerderi reservoir

• 12:00 p.m. – Blessing of the waters at the Loutra Port

• 1:00 p.m. – Blessing of the waters at Lentas Beach

Additionally, on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the feast day of Saint John the Baptist, a Blessing of the Waters ceremony will take place at Agios Ioannis at 10:30 a.m.
