ABOUT

Sarakiniko Beach is undeniably one of the top two most popular and commercial beaches on Gavdos. What sets it apart is its relatively easy accessibility, being just 1.5 kilometre away from the port of Karave. Visitors have the option to reach it on foot or by bus, making it a convenient and sought-after destination on the island.

The mesmerising combination of cedars, dunes, and shallow waters creates a breath-taking scenery at Sarakiniko Beach. Its most prized feature is the abundance of shade provided by the cedars, making it an ideal spot for free campers who often use it as a base to enjoy the beauty of Gavdos.

In addition to the free camping options, visitors to Sarakiniko Beach can also find accommodation in rooms to let for a more comfortable stay.

Tripiti (Trypiti) Beach: The Southernmost Beach in Europe

Tripiti (Trypiti) Beach: The Southernmost Beach in Europe

Access to this exceptional location is possible by walking a 3.5-kilometre path from Korfos, surrounded by picturesque pine trees and old stone farmhouses.

Tripiti Beach is adorned with pebbles and gravel, while its seabed boasts a sandy terrain. Notably, the distinctive feature of this beach is the Kamarelles, three large arches formed on the rocks. The first arch is even wide enough for a small boat to pass through., Tripiti derived its name from these unique ‘holes’, given that ‘tripiti’ means ‘with holes’ in Greek.

On these arches, the Russian nuclear scientists who sought refuge on Gavdos after the Chernobyl disaster, constructed a giant chair, embracing renewable energy sources. Adjacent to the beach, a dry riverbed leads to Aliki, a salt lake that accommodates migratory birds until early spring.

While visiting or returning from Tripiti, a stop in Vatsiana, the southernmost habitable settlement in Europe, is highly recommended.
