From the Three Churches to Stroumboulas!

Just a short drive from Heraklion, after Gazi, you'll come across the springs of the Almyros River. From here, the journey begins toward the small yet charming Almyros Gorge.

A little further on, you'll find the Chapel of Christ nestled in a field of orange trees. A dirt road from this point leads to the national highway towards Rethymno. Cross the highway, and continue on a paved road until you reach the foothills of Mount Stroumboulas, sitting at 798 meters.

The trail is clear and well-marked, and many hikers take the 40-minute walk to the summit. At the top, you'll find the Church of the Holy Cross, offering breathtaking views of Heraklion and the surrounding areas!

The return journey follows the same path back.
