From Psychro to Selakano

A picturesque yet challenging route along the E4 trail, suited for seasoned climbers, is the Psychro-Selakano path, covering a distance of 20 kilometres.

While following the E4 European Path, after departing from the village of Psychro, your next stop will be Kaminaki. From there, you'll turn right and ascend on an asphalt road leading to the Limnakaro area, which is about 5 kilometres away.

The E4 European Path travels through Limnakaro, ascending from the Lassithi Plateau to the source of Avarsami (1,885 metres). It then descends to Selakano. If you opt for a detour, you have the opportunity to reach the summits of Spathi (2,148 metres) and Afentis Christos (2,141 metres).

To accommodate climbers exploring this rugged side of Dikti, there's the well-appointed Mountaineering Shelter of the Lassithi Greek Mountaineering Club located in Strovili. You can reach it via a dirt road that ascends from Limnakaro for your convenience.

Commencing from Limnakaro, the path ascends clearly marked. After roughly 2 hours, you'll reach a junction with three distinct route choices.

The left path leads to Spathi, the right path goes to Afentis Christos, and the straight path continues towards Selakanos. The E4 trail descends towards the Selakanos forest.
