Stavrochori: The Village with 24 Churches
ABOUT
It boasts not one, not two, not three, but a total of 24 churches situated within the boundaries of this historic village in Lassithi, matching the number of festivals held in memory of the saints throughout the year.
Visitors can stroll through charming, narrow lanes and relax in the village's beautiful square, which is adorned with numerous traditional cafés.
The woodland across from the Zoodochos Pigi Monastery is known as Petrolivanos. It once served as an extensive park featuring springs and served as a secure refuge during Turkish pirate raids.
In Pano Metochi, there is one particular plane tree among the five that, as per tradition, was planted by a convict under the command of an Aga to save his life.
