Boufani Gorge
ABOUT
Boufani Gorge (also known as Boufani) lies southeast of Selakano and ends between the villages of Christos and Metaxochori in the Viannos region.
As the Mountaineering Club of Agios Nikolaos notes, the gorge is also known by several other names:
-
Selakano Gorge, after the Selakano Forest where it begins
-
Gorge of the Bearded Vultures, due to the birds often seen flying above (though this name is technically incorrect, as the bearded vulture is a different species)
-
Parsas Gorge, from the old name of the village Metaxochori
-
Psoriaris Gorge, after the Psoriaris River that flows through it
The usual hike follows the old trail connecting Selakano with Metaxochori, running high above and parallel to a short section of the gorge bed.

The tip of Local!
Hiking through the riverbed itself is demanding, with small waterfalls along the way. If the Psoriaris River has water, you may even need to step into the stream in some parts.
