Sfakaki, Rethymno
ABOUT
Sfakaki is a coastal village within the Community of Pangalochori in the Municipality of Rethymno.
Sfakaki is situated in the bay of Almyros, approximately 9 kilometres from the city of Rethymno. It is positioned between the settlements of Pigianos Kampos, Pangalochori, and Skaleta, with the Northern Road Axis of Crete (A90) passing through it.
Archaeological excavations have revealed a section of a cemetery dating back to the late Archaic and early Classical period, remnants of residential areas, and an impressive Roman bath complex in the region.
Hence, the area encompassing the settlements of Sfakaki and Pangalochori is considered an extension of the archaeological site of Stavromenos - Chamalevri and has received official designation as such.
