Panagia Kera in Chromonastiri
ABOUT
Visitors to the village of Chromonastiri can marvel at a church designed in the shape of a Greek cross.
Panagia Kera is a unique architectural phenomenon in Crete, featuring a church with a dome and two additional arches on the north and south walls.
The church was built in the 11th century.
Visitors can marvel at a few surviving frescoes from that era depicting simplified forms of an anti-classical trend. In the 14th century, important additions and frescoes in a different style were incorporated, along with the construction of a chapel in the southeast corner.
