Goulediana: Unveiling the Rich Tapestry of History

Cities & Villages

ABOUT

The village is nestled along the banks of a ravine, boasting several recently renovated residences.

The area boasts a wealth of history. During the Venetian occupation, Goulediana served as a dependency. Within the settlement, visitors can explore the remnants of an early archaic fountain and an archaic house, alongside a plethora of artefacts including bronze weaponry and a seated Daedalic statue.

Nearby, at Onythe, lie the ruins of an early Christian basilica known as Kera, dating back to the late 5th to early 6th century.

Its architectural design bears resemblance to the basilicas found in North Africa. The excavations were conducted by N Platon. Additionally, in Goulediana lies another significant monument from the early Byzantine period: the Basilica of Goulediana and Agia Kyriaki. Constructed in 1787, this church features a cavernous sanctuary.
