The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos has many small, beautiful villages that are worth discovering in its inland areas.
You will find Dories on the road from Elounda, a short distance from Fourni.
It is a small rural settlement with houses that are notable examples of Cretan mountain architecture.
Particularly impressive is the artificial open reservoir for collecting rainwater, created by joining 14 older cisterns from the area.
In the region, you’ll find places to eat, and there are also monasteries you can visit.
