Afouresmenos Cape
ABOUT
Afouresmenos Cape, also known as Cape Agios Ioannis, lies close to the village of Vrouchas.
Near the wind farm and the chapel of Agios Ioannis, you’ll find the area’s renowned lighthouse.
You get to the lighthouse via a dirt road that begins at the wind farm, followed by a short footpath. The rugged landscape is typical of Crete—bare mountains, steep cliffs, and strong winds.
The lighthouse was built in 1864 by the French Lighthouse Company, on the site of a former tower. It became part of the Greek lighthouse network in 1912.
The T3 hiking trail "Faros Afouresmenou" starts at the chapel of Agios Ioannis and leads directly to the lighthouse.
