Selena Mountain

Mountains & Hills

ABOUT

Selena Mountain is one of the peaks surrounding the Lassithi Plateau. According to the Heraklion Mountaineering Club, it rises on the eastern side of the plateau, at 1,556 metres. On a clear day, the view from the top is truly spectacular: you can see northern Crete, stretching from Heraklion to Sisi, the imposing Dikti Mountains opposite, the Lassithi Plateau, Thrypti, Psiloritis, and even as far as Santorini.

Its name likely comes from Selene, the Dorian version of the word for the moon. Scattered across its ravines and slopes are a number of small villages, each with their own unique charm.
