Ancient Rizinia
ABOUT
An excavation by the Italian Archaeological School uncovered the remains of an ancient Minoan city, which, according to inscriptions discovered at the site, was the city of Rizinia or Apollonia.
The excavation was conducted at a distance of 2 km from Prinia on Patella hill.
The inscription (I)ZENIA(A) was discovered southeast of Patella.
The same inscription had been carved in various Gortyna finds of the 5th century BC. According to such inscriptions, Rizinia, which was located between Gortyna and Knossos, had undertaken to send slaughtered animals to Ideon Andron for the sacrifices held there once every four years.

The tip of Local!
Just before you reach the spot where you park your car, there is a small section of easy dirt road. If you prefer not to drive on it, you can take a short walk from where the paved road ends.
