ABOUT

A mere 15 kilometres from Heraklion, this museum is located in Myrtia, the ancestral village of Nikos Kazantzakis and the birthplace of the museum's founder, set and costume designer George Anemogiannis.

The museum finds its home in the area that once housed the Anemogiannis family and a smaller residence where Kazantzakis' relatives lived. In 2009, the museum underwent thorough renovations, unveiling a fresh exhibition proposal for its extensive collections.

The Permanent Exhibition invites visitors to explore the author's personality through his letters, diaries, personal items, travel mementos, rare photographs, set and costume models, performances of his works, audiovisual material, and artworks inspired by his literary world.

The physical and digital displays are organised into five thematic sections: 1) The man Kazantzakis, 2) The Odyssey of Kazantzakis, 3) Correspondence, friends, and influences, 4) Early and theatrical plays, including his work 'Ascetic', and 5) Novels and travel works.
